First week back at the new/old job went fairly well. Adapted pretty easily to the changes, which includes a lot more hands-on editing than before (I'm actually editing raw XML files now--eep!) Made a few little mistakes here and there, but otherwise it's been like riding a bike.

--

Most everyone's been happy to see me again, though there's still no real socializing going on there. It's just not that kind of office, for one, and contractors aren't really part of what little social grouping there is. S'OK, though. Means I don't get pestered much, either.

--

My official contract goes through Jan. 28. There's a very, very tiny chance I could get a week or so off after that, which might allow me to go to that UK event the following weekend. Of course, then there's the issue of finding the money to do it, which is still a problem.

--

Some of this might be somewhat mitigated by an idea I had on the kid-obtaining front. I don't want to jinx it by saying too much before I know whether it's possible, but I realized that there's one avenue of the getting-me-preggers route that we hadn't totally ruled out, so I'm going to see if my fertility clinic will consider it (since they won't consider IVF for me.) Even if we had to do multiple rounds of this particular thing, it'd still be cheaper than the adoption, so we definitely at least want to look into it.

--

On the Fammy front: Some bad, but mostly good. She's not only still around, but she's been downright perky lately. We were still having trouble getting her to eat much, so the doc gave us a prescription for an appetite stimulant, and that seems to have done some good. She's still not really eating a lot, but it's more than before, and more than that, it's pretty clear she feels better. She even begged to be let out of the theater this morning, and spent the day roaming the house. We still may need to get her in for an ultrasound and liver biopsy, but I think I'm going to spend the weekend monitoring her to see if she continues to improve before we put her through that.

--

And speaking of the weekend: I seem to have been bitten by a vid bunny. I know I said I wasn't going to do any more fanworks for now, and I still may not finish it, but I do want to dink around with it at least a little bit. I don't otherwise have weekend plans and I still want to stick close to the house for the cat, so I may as well muck around with that.

K's about to become a grandmother. She turns 40 in July.

Her 22-year-old kid--my goddaughter--is due in Feb.

The idea of my pseudosister having a grandkid before I've even had a kid? Is messing with my head.

Granted that K started early--her first pregnancy was at 15--but still.

Big congrats to NOLA, the city in which I was married! Bout time they had something great happen.

As to the Other Big Stuff...

I honestly think I was high on baby pheromones for a few hours after we came home. (There is, too such a thing.) Rilly, rilly, rilly want to get our financial situation sorted out quickly so we can go get one of our own.

Also got to meet some nice new folks, and have some lovely chats with good friends, despite the chaos over our little resident celeb.

Tired now, though. Big work day tomorrow, as we're starting a new feature that's going to eat a lot of my bandwidth.

Awesome

This video encapsulates why I want a kid or two:

The free (well, relatively cheap) entertainment value alone has got to be worth all the nights you get no sleep because the kid is puking on every available surface.

(Interestingly, I feel the same way about my cats. Yes, they stink up the place, barf for seemingly no reason at all and occasionally draw blood, but they're just so. damned. funny. that I can't help but adore them.)

Maybe it's snobbish of me to say this, but...

If one can't even spell "pregnant," perhaps it's not exactly a wise choice to be actively trying to become so.

This post brought to you by yet another venture to the infertility forums.

New filter

textualdeviance: (avatar)
So, now that the spawning effort is starting in earnest, I'm going to create a filter for that stuff so the rest of y'all don't have to deal with potential TMI and such that direction.

Comment if you want to be on the filter.

I'm very tired and sore, but happy to be home. I'm mostly moved out of the bachelor pad, now. There are just a few more small things and some cleaning left to do, which will be dealt with when we're up there again next Saturday for commencement.

Of course, there's still a half-full U-Haul sitting in my driveway. It'll be emptied tonight, but things will mostly be going directly into the garage, where my car usually sits, as there are several household cleaning/re-arranging things that need to happen before those things go to their proper homes. Two years of being away from home means two years of household projects have been buiding up. I suspect I'm in for a busy (and probably expensive) summer of mucking around the house.

I need the domestic downtime, though. I'd go completely nuts if I didn't have any mental stimulation, so this won't last long, and I'll likely be doing plenty of brain-oriented projects, too, but two years of school means the old noggin needs a bit of a rest for at least a few weeks. Continuing to catch up on my reading, plus daily rounds of mah-jongg and spider solitaire should be enough for it. :)

Other than domestic stuff, reading, playing and socializing (Eeee! People!) I'll probably be working somewhat on the fertility stuff, to see where that goes. Otherwise, I'm just waiting for a good job to come along.

If October rolls around and I'm neither pregnant nor in a perfect job, I'll probably go sign up with some temp agency or something, since we'll definitely need the money by then to start paying off some of the massive credit bills this whole educational adventure has racked up. Fortunately, my degree means that the kinds of temp jobs I can now expect will be far different than the biological office equipment ones I'd done before. No more answering phones, that's for damned sure.
