I was thinking the other day, re your comment on the "American Taliban", that the conservative christians are the ones Americans should be fearing more than any Islamic terrorist.
Last week the Pope called for Christians worldwide to fight secularism wherever it occurs, and strive towards enshrining Christian values in law. With so many radical Christian groups taking such a call literally (with firebombs and shootings, ie terrorism) and no effort made to rein them in by the hierarchy of *any* Christian church, then this is a call for nothing less than a Christian jihad.
As far as immediate threats to democracy and freedom in Western countries goes, the Pope is a far greater threat than Osama bin Laden.
Welcome to my world. I know all about good ol' boys, bible-thumping tent revivals, racism and more. Example: at the gas pumps they have this sticker supplied by the state police telling motorists that if they drive off without paying for gas they will lose their license. The trooper pictured on the sticker is black. On almost every pump I have used with that sticker the man's face has been scratched off or some obscenity has been written over it. Can you imagine how that makes that trooper feel?? It REALLY pisses me off. They are now replacing those stickers with another that features a white trooper. I have yet to see one of those defaced.
