I rather like the concept of the holiday thing, but the reality never seems to get anywhere near that.

yeah, the concept is great. but my reality is that my whole family either lives in another country or much rather ignores that my grandmother (and everyone descended from her) even exists.
so since my mother decided i was no little kid anymore christmas for me means sitting around with my mom and her current boyfriend talking about cheerful things like 'humanity is a virus and therefor massmurderers could be called a cure for the earth's illness' or whatever is going wrong in current politics...
seriously the only really good thing i can see about this season is that nuts, salmon and marzipan are easier to get and cheaper. *g*
