So, I scheduled my trip to Dragon*Con (my first) on a very thin rumor that there would be Primeval people there (including Andrew, of course.) As yet, this hasn't been confirmed, and I suspect it might not be until the last minute because they're filming right now. It's also, of course, possible that they won't be there (there will be a ton of other people I wanna see, though, so it's not a wasted trip at all.)

However, I just saw a note that there WILL be Primeval people at another con in February.

Said con, naturally, happens to be in England.

I get the feeling that if they don't go to D*C this year, I may well be SOL for ever getting to meet any of them unless I go do one of the UK cons (if not this one, mebbe another.) I suppose it's possible they may do something else to promo the show here in the US (since it'll be airing on BBCA), but I'm not hopeful on that.

There are a millions reasons why I shouldn't do this. Money and my lack of tolerance for long flights in particular.

But I still wanna. I've never been to Europe, and the chances of going anytime in the next decade are pretty slim since by this time next year, we'll likely be deep in the heart of buying a kid. February is low season, so it'd be cheaper, and I may have another contract between now and then to add funds for both kid-buying and crazy impulsive behavior like this, but...

You know, if Evan was doing a convention or something, I'd be a lot more keen to go. It's the fact that he'll be randomly standing around in an AT&T store that's really making me question it. It's just so weird. Do I really want to drive 90 miles into Santa Monica to stand around an AT&T store for a few seconds to meet Evan? I also don't like Evan to the degree that I liked Frazer (or that you like Andrew). So it depends. I'll probably set my alarm early tomorrow and see how I feel when it goes off.

But you've definitely got a lot more to gain with Andrew. Not just meeting him, but going to England AND meeting friends. Of course there are logistics. If you fly into Heathrow the airport connects directly to the train and subway station, so transportation within London isn't much of a problem. If you have friends local to the area, perhaps they'll be willing to meet up with you/go to the convention with you? When I went, I ended up meeting up with another US friend who flew in as well. Our convention was in Blackpool of all places, so we ended up buying a map, renting a car and driving all the way from London to Blackpool (and back). An added expense, and driving on the other side of the road of course takes some getting use to, but certainly an option if the convention is outside of London-area. Know though that there are also loads of buses as well as trains, and generally the convention website will give alternate ways to get there.

Of course you've got to be a responsible adult, but it also seems fair to allow yourself one final fling before you buckle down. And if you can do something like I did and make a little extra cash by selling off fannish things you already own, it certainly makes the money situation easier.

Well, I broke down and at least made the ticket/accomodation reservation. It only needed a deposit and the rest isn't due until November, plus they have good refund policies.

That'll give me quite a while to decide whether we can do this, and if so, how long we can afford to be there. I'm hoping I get another contract between now and then--it'll solve a lot of issues, actually.

I really do want to meet up with those folks (both the actor folks and the fannish ones) so I hope I can make it work. :)
