I sort of got some sleep last night. Was perky when I woke up, but have slowly been building a headache all day, so it's apparent I'm not quite caught up from two days of low sleep. Too much to do and too many things occupying my frazzled brain! Focusing on work has been difficult, to say the least, and I'm way behind already on fall TV. Eep!

M's been a phone-calling superhero today--setting up a ton of house hacking appointments and such. Our down payment went through today (it's actually quite unnerving to watch six figures drop out of one's bank account in one go) and as far as we know, everything else is on track, so we should have keys sometime Friday, as soon as the paperwork gets recorded with the county. He's planning to head down there with [livejournal.com profile] rackham as soon as we get the go-ahead, to assess what all needs to be done before shopping for supplies (wiring stuff, paint, etc.)

Met with the carpet dude yesterday, and signed up for a whole-house re-do. The carpet in the house is five years old and had two very large dogs running through it, so it's pretty well shredded, and it all needed to go. We decided to go with a type that has some pet-friendly features, so we'll have fewer concerns when the cats (as they do) occasionally leave little gifts for us here and there. Pricey, but it means it'll last for 10 years.

Also wandered around the house for a bit while we were there, checking on what we have to do. It's actually a bit more run down than it seemed the first couple of times (having half the furniture gone helped expose some of the rough edges), so there's going to be some work necessary. It's not bad, though. Just needs a little spit and polish. Some paint and a good scrubbing will help quite a bit. I know the sellers were supposed to be moving the last of their stuff out today. We'll see whether they leave a mess behind or not. I hope not. I'd rather not have to do much more than what a good housekeeping team can get to (plus the fixes and upgrades we'd already planned, of course.)

So many other people to get scheduled! Cable/net, alarm co., hardwood refinishers, rekeying, yard service folks, blah blah. But it's all on track so far. AFAIK, we should be sleeping there--sort of--after our stuff gets moved over the weekend of the 10th.

One other bit of house news: So, know how we're moving in large part to be closer to many of our friends? Well, we're even closer than we'd originally hoped! The lovely [livejournal.com profile] havdrake is moving back in with us! We realized that we were going to have an empty room until we manage to get a kid to put in it, and we all had kind of missed being together (Seriously: Best roomie situation evar), so he's going to be back for at least a while. The DSM III will live again! :)

OMG SO EXCITED! Tired. Terrified of the work ahead of us in the next few weeks. In a fair amount of shock watching very large sums of money evaporate. But still all squirmy-butt with glee like a happy puppy. Yaye. :)

Gotta say, I'm a whole-hearted wood floor, no carpet kinda gal - no carpet, no fleas courtesy the cats, but also I just love wood more than fabric, even in WayCold Quebec in winter!

The thing to remember is that it doesn't all have to be done in one day, or even one week; it'll all come together in time, you know (yeah, I'm sounding zen even to myself {g}).

We were lucky in the sense that the money for our house was all from Chris's inheritance - I never thought of it as "real" money that we actually had, it was just this inheritance. But even so, yeah, as a person raised mostly in the lower class with only a year or so being "low middle" class (i.e. my parents bought a house), seeing hundreds of thousands of even to me unreal dollars going out, that's weird.

But still all squirmy-butt with glee like a happy puppy.

Which is the whole point! Congratulations once again!

I actually wish we could afford to do wood and tile through the whole place, but it's just not possible--too much floor that's already covered with carpet. I do like carpet in bedrooms, though. Cold floors in the morning to get to the bathroom? Noooo! ;)

I think we've got the scheduling mostly down. The big thing is making sure we have the new carpet and paint done before the furniture gets there the weekend of the 10th. The rest will come together slowly after that. And I'm enlisting help. My mama's coming for a visit at the end of the month to help me load my china cabinet and such.
