Worrywart

We're nearing the end of negotiations on the house--we should know for certain tomorrow.

I should be excited and thrilled, but instead, I'm wracked with stomach-churning anxiety. Partially just worry about whether we'll actually get the place, but also a bit of, "OMG, I've never spent so much money on one thing in my entire life."

The latter is compounded by a few things.

The counter-offer wasn't quite what we'd hoped (still within limits, but definitely higher.) The stock market tanking yesterday means that we lost about $6k of our planned down payment money. And there are a few other nickel-and-dime things here and there that have whittled down what cash we'll have available after closing, too.

I'm confident in my budgeting for this. We've been planning this out for months, and I've got a good idea of what we can really afford, and we should be fine, if a little less flush than we might've been had costs turned out lower and cash turned out higher. But the numbers really are so enormous that they're a bit beyond what my poor, working-class-pedigree brain can really digest.

I'm still having a bit of trouble really comprehending the idea that yes, we can afford this--we're even well within conventional lending standards--and once the initial atom bomb to the bank account has finished dissipating, we'll be doing just fine, especially with me working (income that hasn't even been factored in, fwiw.) We may not be taking any big vacations or buying a new car in the short term, but we're good, otherwise.

I shouldn't worry much, I guess. Yes, it's a lot of money, it's more or less draining our current reserves and will tighten our budget somewhat, but it's also a really nice house, and it's in a great location, which means we'll be able to see folks more often. And that alone? Is worth the price. :)
