Welcome home!
Meet Otter:
Video to come.
We roamed around the various shelters and rescue centers this weekend, ostensibly looking for a female, but when we got to PAWS, they told us we should get a male instead, as he'd fit in with our cranky old ladies better. We were a little skeptical, given that Punky had given us a lot of issues with marking behavior and such, but we decided to give it a go. About 30 seconds after we got into the cat room, this little dude was sticking his paw through his cage bars and playing with my scarf. They warned us that he was rambunctious and liked to play rough, but when we got him in a meet-and-greet room, it turned out he was just mostly doing soft kronsches (as they say on CO) and hanging on to whatever was nearby. Not attacking or really rough play, just GIMMEH. He's about eight months old, so he's just still in that active stage.
We fell in love on the spot, and were going to bring him home, but they discovered that they'd forgotten to neuter him, so we had to wait for them to do that yesterday and I brought him home this afternoon. He's tired and sore, so he's a lot more subdued than he might normally be, but he's totally loving his new home so far. Well, what little of it he's seen. He's currently locked in the bedroom with the other two (with M chaperoning) so they can get to know each other. The gals aren't terribly pleased with him, but there hasn't been any actual fighting. Just growling and hissing and hiding in opposite corners. He's been very friendly with them--went right up to Fammy and tried to do a nose-to-nose greeting with her (she wanted none of that.) They'll get over it, though.
He's been very affectionate with us so far, too. And he's a huge, huge purr monster. To a ridiculous degree. You'll see when I get the video up.
PAWS was glad he'd gotten a home. I guess they had some issues with getting him out because of his rough play and also he had some digestive problems (probably due to being a stray and being under a lot of stress.) He'll be on a special diet for a while, and we'll keep an eye on that. He's otherwise bright and healthy and active, though.
I'm absolutely smitten, and so is M. I'm thrilled that we have a new little friend in the house--it's been far too long. :)
