I guess my instincts were right. Punky didn't make it through the night.

Goodbye, my little old man.




I'm crushed, but I'm also grateful for a few things. I'm glad I didn't have to take him to the vet and let him go that way. I'd have been an absolute wreck. I'm glad I got to spend quite a bit of time with him yesterday, being kind to him and letting him know that it was OK if he needed to go. One of the things that still haunts me about losing Kitty Bob is that I wasn't able to be there when she went. And I'm glad he was in his comfortable home, and not scared or stressed out. And I'm glad he's not in pain anymore.

He was never obsequiously friendly, like Kitty Bob was. He was shy and sometimes cantankerous, and more than a little destructive. But he had a personality all his own, and he always let us know, in subtle ways, that he loved his humans.

I'm really going to miss him, but I'm glad I was able to give him a good life.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear it, Shawna. I'm sure Punky had a wonderful life with you and M, and it sounds like his downhill slide was at least a quick one. As you say, better for him to go at home rather than at the vet's, but still.... *hugs*
