I don't really make resolutions--too much pressure.

So, in the same vein as what I did last New Year's Day, some lists:

  • Got through three more terms of school, with my sanity relatively intact.

  • Had a fantastic internship, even though the commute sucked.

  • Found my career niche--copy and online editing. I've become an annoying grammar cop, now.

  • Continued to have some health problems. This is probably the worst part of my year. But I also...

  • Increased my confidence in being able to manage something close to a normal life despite my limitations. I'm never going to be fully healthy and able to do everything, but I can get by, which is the most I can ask for until they find a cure for my illness.

  • Started a new medication. No results, yet, but also not many problems tolerating it, which is a big gain.

  • Started eating fish and fowl again, after 16 years of being veg. It still feels weird, and no way am I eating mammals or anything with a complex brain, but I do actually feel better with the iron and protein boosts, and with eating less soy.

  • Turned 35.

  • Celebrated 11 years with M, and nine years married to him.

  • Voted, and happily welcomed our new Democrat leadership, which will, I hope, help get the country back on track.

  • Followed the progress of BBM, and, while I was disappointed that it lost BP (to a shitty film), the overall success really did make a difference.

  • Proved to myself that I can (sort of) live on my own.

  • Lost an aunt.

  • Spent a lot of time and money taking care of my elderly kitty, and was rewarded with another year with her.

  • Welcomed out three well-known celebs.

  • Was too freaking busy to have much of a social life, with the net result being that I desperately miss my friends. I did meet some great new people, though, and got to know some other folks better. I was particularly delighted by getting to spend some time with [livejournal.com profile] mrdorbin and [livejournal.com profile] southplains and by getting to know more folks in my department.

  • Took my mind off of real-life chaos by sinking into various forms of pop culture, especially BSG and a few other shows, and lots of games.

  • Kind of let my one remaining website lapse. I'll probably get it going again eventually.

  • Finally broke myself of much of my flamewar habit. This was helped by avoiding most of the places populated by people who tend to piss me off. I did get into a few here and there on random groups--but I felt good about being right, and I wasn't just shooting my mouth off or arguing for the sake of arguing.

  • Finally caught up on a lot of my pleasure reading, though I have a lot more to go.

  • Did very little traveling. Never had the time. We did one trip to Vegas between winter and spring terms, and that was all. Considering that much of the past five years, I've traveled up to six times a year, this was pretty odd for me.

  • Watched my childhood best friend's kid graduate from high school, and M's little sister get married. Both of these things made me feel very old. I changed my friend's kid's diapers, for frak's sake.

  • Get my degree!

  • Be in a crapload of debt because of it, but oh, well.

  • After I'm done with school, work on trying to get pregnant and/or look into adoption, if we decide to go that route. This will also involve some fairly intense focus on my health, which I'm not looking forward to.

  • Start making initial plans for building our house. This will possibly include buying some land and/or selling our current house and buying a cheaper condo while we're doing the construction. That's more likely to happen in 08, though.

  • Have a summer sabbatical while working on the above, and then look into getting a job. I may freelance for a while until the rest of the logistics of kid and living space settle out.

  • Turn 36.

  • Celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary Jan 17. Although I will actually be stuck in class that day, dammit. We'll probably celebrate the previous weekend.

  • Possibly have two minor surgeries--one to repair a small hernia, and one to correct a deviated septum so I can actually breathe.

  • Get back into singing somehow. I miss it like crazy.

  • Get back in touch with my friends, because I miss them like crazy, too.

  • Say goodbye to folks in B'ham, though I hope I can pack some up and take them with me (and you know who you are!)

  • Watch in glee as Pelosi and co. give Bush, Cheney, Rove, etc. a well-deserved bitchslapping. I'm making the popcorn now.

  • See how the '08 prez race shapes up. I'd prefer no Hil or Obama, but we'll see. Anyone but the noodleheads the GOP is offering. Bleh.

  • Have at least one blowout vacation. I'm getting itchy feet. It's been far too long since I've been on an airplane.
