The term thusfar
So, despite having four classes and 13 credits this term (technically, three classes plus the editing gig) I think things are going to go well this term (knock on wood.)
My features class is, essentially, "here's how to interview feature subjects, write feature articles and sell them to magazines." Considering that I did two out of three of those things all summer, and I already know how to write a query letter, I think I'll do fine. It also helps that we'll be focusing on real-world articles, and not just student-focused ones, so I can get away with writing about the grownup life stuff I'm familiar with.
Online Journalism is going to be a breeze. I can tell I'm going to go to class just because I love the subject so much. Most of the class will be various speakers coming in--some of whom, the prof assured us, will be hunting for interns and such. Heh. I would love to have a job waiting for me when I'm done.
And today's class, psychology of gender, well...
I could literally sleep through the class and still pass. In fact, I could show up only on test days and still pass. Tests are multiple choice (it's a lecture hall class) and cover readings from the text and what's in her presentations. Presentations, mind, that are all on Power Point docs that can be found on the class's website. And apparently, she doesn't deviate much from those. So that, plus my in-depth knowledge of the subject? No problemo. I'll go to class up until the first quiz, so I can be sure the quizzes won't be hard, but after that, if I have to work late Mondays on the paper, no way am I getting up for a Tuesday morning class I don't need. The prof is hilarious, though, so I may show up just to see her standup routine.
It's good that these are light classes, because I can tell right now that this editing thing is going to completely kick my ass. I've had a look at the management tools for the website, and they suck. M's going to give me some boot camp this weekend, but I'm actually quite worried about my ability to really overhaul the site like they want. Meh. I'll also be starting the fact-checking thing tonight, and am a bit nervous about that. I'm worried that I won't be able to find everything I need to find.
The good part is that I got transportation more or less worked out. The path I found from the bus stop is easy, if long, and I found buses that run fairly late, in case there's a time I can't take a dinner break and come back with my car to park next to the building. I hope I can do that most days, because I really dislike the idea of walking around campus after dark.
Oh, and more good news--no bad effects from my new meds so far. Yaye!
