Thanks in part to the efforts of
havdrake to whom I owe my firstborn or a vat of chocolate-covered twinks, I should be able to start class on Tuesday with no problems. :D
I've also started laying out my plan for the next year's worth of classes. Interesting that part of the degree requirement is classes in economics, poly sci and American history. I suppose that makes sense, considering the sort of things journalists tend to cover. Even though my focus after grad is going to be arts/entertainment media, politics and economics in particular are going to be important parts of that, especially for the particular focus I want to have on the effects of those two things on what entertainment gets produced, and vice versa. There's also a kickass class in Media Law that I have to take, and I can't wait for that.
I'm hoping to start taking two classes/term starting in summer, which should give me the degree around fall 2006, though if I step it up and do a couple of terms with three classes, I might be able to swing regular commencement that year. Not quite ready for that yet, though. It's been 6 years since I was in a classroom, and almost 10 since I was in classes regularly, so I need some ramp-up time, first, to get used to the whole study habits thing again. A lot has changed since then. I'm not quite as spry as I was. I also have to hope that UW accepts me as a post-bac and the Journo school accepts me, too. My final GPA from PSU, since I got so sick and went through my divorce in my senior year, ended up at a 2.92. I have an average 3.9 from the classes I took to finish the degree after that, so that helps. I also have to check my UNR transcript, too. If it doesn't work out, though, I'll just do the Com degree that the extension offers, and take some specialty-area classes along with it anyway.
Gah. This is all so crazy. But it feels right, even if I'm running up against roadblocks getitng started.
