Oof

Just woke up. Slept for... 14?? hours. I guess I really needed it, though. I wore myself out something fierce this weekend. But I had a lot of fun doing it. It's been 2 1/2 years since we went to Vegas last, and I figured it was time again. Mostly, I wanted to go see Zumanity, so we did that. Let me say: if you ever have the opportunity, GO SEE THIS SHOW! It's amazing. It's pansexual and panmorphic and funny and crazy and sexy and sublime. Far, FAR more than just the t&a you'd expect from an adult show in Vegas.

We stayed at the MGM this time, and my god, that place is huge. We really didn't go anywhere else except across the st. to NYNY for the show, and up a few blocks to go see a movie (Runaway Jury-- not bad, but not great) and be appalled at the merchandise available at the M&M and Coke stores. I had intended to go play cheap table games at the Boardwalk, but it was too far a walk to get up there. Hell, it was about half a mile just to get from our room down to the cafe for breakfast. So I ended up blowing our gambling budget on the slot machines instead. I think I did pretty well, though. I started out with around 200 and ended up playing through about 1600 by the time it was all done (playing back small wins), though I only have 40 left now. To be honest, we really couldn't afford this trip, especially after all the other traveling we've done this year (and last) but I really wanted to go, and I'm glad we did. Next trip is NY again in January for the Film Society trilogy showing, and then the TORN party in Feb.

Big Chorus Meeting is tonight. Will probably be spending a lot of the day getting ready for that (and hoping that this horrid cold I managed to get this weekend doesn't morph into coughing by then. Grrr.) Also apparently have an assload of site-related stuff to catch up on, though some of that may have to wait until tomorrow. I had hoped to be able to keep up on things while we were gone, but it turned out that the net connect in our room hadn't actually been turned on yet. The modem was there, but no juice to it. They made the brilliant decision to turn on all the standard rooms first and leave the suites til last. So it was a choice between a jacuzzi room or net connect. Easy choice. :) I was able to get on briefly at their business center, but they charged *$1.50 a minute* there. Jeeeeez. Also got on briefly at a little hole-in-the-wall place a few blocks away, but I didn't feel like hiking that far every day. It was good for me to be away from all this for a few days, really. It helped make the purpose of the trip-- destressing-- possible.

Now, if this stupid fucking headache would go away, and I could breathe, I'd be just peachy...

83 out of 100 questions right, and I'm not even completely awake and my drugs haven't hit yet. Got all the hard ones, too.

MTV was the teat I sucked all through high school. Fortunately I also raided the import vinyl bin at Mirabelli's and had a friend who introduced me to the Cure when everyone else was listening to Madonna and/or hair bands. Oh, and when I was working at the local Top 40 station (KWNZ) the program director let me have all the demos that were too "edgy" for them to play. So I have an assload of singles from Jane Siberry, Feargal Sharkey, Hipsway, Everything But The Girl, the Housemartins, etc. According to my peers, I was seriously uncool at the time because I wasn't into either country or metal, but now, looking back on it, I guess I really was pretty damned cool then. Too cool for Reno, obviously. I'm slowly replacing all my vinyl and cassettes with CDs, but some of that stuff just can't be found. The Other Ones, Pseudo Echo, Game Theory, Gene Love Jezebel, etc. I can find a few compilations, but not the original albums. Sigh.. I'm lucky that I found the Time-Life Modern Rock collection, and the Living In Oblivion series because they have a lot of weird, obscure stuf on them (Heaven 17, Ultravox, etc.) but I'm still mourning the loss of some of the full albums.

If anyone happens to ever run across-- even if it's vinyl-- a set called Enigma Variations from (I think) 1984 or 85, please PLEASE send it to me. It's basically a sampler of a bunch of bands that were on Enigma records at the time. I have a really horrid taped version of it which is all but disintegrated right now, and I'm dying to get some of those tracks again. It had stuff like Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper singing "Elvis is Everywhere" and an all-girl punk band called the Screamin Sirens with a song which was waaaaaayy ahead of its time called "You Make me a Maniac." It also had the classic Dead Milkmen song "Bitchin Camaro." ("my favorite cover band, Crystal Shit")

Gah. Pardon me while I die of nostalgia.
