busy days

So, I just brought [livejournal.com profile] mekle home from his oral surgery this morning. He's now IM'ing me from the recliner four feet away because he can't talk. They really fucked him up badly. I got to see the x-rays from before they worked on him and it was astonishing: his two lower wisdom teeth (he only grew two, for some reason) were actually growing in sideways.

It looked something like this:

>^^^^^^^^<

So they really had to dig in there to get them out, carefully avoiding the nerve that runs along the bottom curve. As it is, he'll have so much swelling for the next few days that he probably won't be able to feel the lower half of his face.

He was hoping to get back to work by Tuesday, but I'm not sure that's going to happen. They said it was even more complicated than they'd planned for, so he may be incapacitated for two weeks. Poor guy. He's never had surgery of any kind, so he's a little freaked out.

But I don't mind taking care of him, and I'll at least have him nearby for a while, which will be good to help innoculate me for when I have to move to B'ham.

Yick, hope he feels better soon. I've never had surgery either...doesn't look like fun.

Oh my god ew. I got four wisdom teeth, but they grew in normally and I "had plenty of room" (once my jaw rearranged itself over the span of two weeks for each tooth, which all came in at different times, and rendered me incapable of moving my jaw) and THAT hurt enough, i can't even imagine how bad this is for him :(

Here's to a speedy recovery. Yikes.

My wisdom teeth were the exact same way! Only on the bottom, and they were both sideways. The dentist had to brake both of them to get them out, infact my right one's roots were curled and it took her over an hour to get it out. The pain was so bad once the freezing wore off I ended up in the ER for morphine. The tylenol 3's the dentist gave me didn't even come close to touching the pain. The ER doc gave me sweet, sweet, Percadin for a week.

Ouch! Curled roots sounds nasty.

Ugh, poor Meckle! Only surgery I've had is that oral surgery - in my case to remove all four wisdom teeth at once, as there wasn't enough room in my jaw for them when they started to grow in; I was given erythromycin as the antibiotic my dental surgeon preferred, only I turned out to be allergic to it and had to stop taking it, got an infection (of course) and ended up having to start another antibiotic (ampicillin I think) and take a bunch o' Percocet for a few weeks....Here's hoping Meckle's experience is nothing like that!

Ooh, poor guy. =( I only grew two myself (one upper, and one lower on the opposite side), and they were also coming in sideways. Sending good vibes for quick healing!
