There is something very, very intellectually satisfying about having one's own theories and insights about something get confirmed by a professional in the field in question. AKA: Shawna's ego got a big shot of helium today. :D

*rubbing hands together* I can hardly WAIT until the wankers get wind of you being right about so many of the things they rant about - and they will have no recourse but to accept it. Of course, they will still say rude things about you and try to discredit everything. But deep down inside they will have to realise that you have been right all along. What a warm fuzzy glow that will be ...

The funny thing is that there was actually more to it than that. I had something else confirmed yesterday on a completely different subject-- one I have less professional experience in than journalism-- and that was very deeply gratifying.

I have a hard time trusting my instincts on things sometimes, especially when I'm a lone or near-lone voice of dissent on something. Even if I know I know some facts about something, or have a decent enough amount of experience with something to make educated guesses, I'm unsure of myself sometimes. So when things like this happen, it's a real shot in the arm to boost my own confidence in my instincts.

It's also been really gratifying to be in this class, and to realize that I honestly already know most of what's going on in it. It's certainly useful for me, because it's filling in some gaps in my education here and there, but it tickles me that the experience and individual study I've had on the subject already has been so good.

I can understand that. In reality it is always best to check your instinct on things, when possible. The more you do the better you will become at using it to ferret out what is really being said or going on. However, you do not lack the courage of your convictions, unlike a certain number of other persons who have diarrhea of the oral fissure.
