So, the diabetes for my little old lady has been confirmed. She's going to need twice-daily injections and special food, and weekly checkups for the first month at least.

Sigh....

Off to go pick her up.

Very sad to hear - our familly cat left us a few months ago - he lived with my Mum and I hadn't seen him often over the past 8 or so years. Cats can make a great impact on your life even when you know them for a very short time, a long time cat is a long time friend and fmaily member I feel. Sorry to hear of your upset and distress.

Sorry to hear your cat's health isn't so good these days...I've had cats all my life and every one of them has died at 14 years of age (fortunately in most cases their illnesses were very short and they didn't suffer for long). My current oldest cat is 13, so I'm taking special care with her at present - so far, aside from losing teeth, she's fine, if sleepy and grumpy a lot. Sigh.

(was given nickname "AliCat" at 11 because of being a cat person all my life)

Poor baby. I hope her condition is manageable.

Just a word of encouragement: my parents' cat, who is now 18 years old, has had diabetes for the past seven years. It was difficult for while, giving her the shots and her crying about not being able to free-feed, but her condition improved very quickly. She now only needs one shot a day, and looks like a cat a third of her age.

It will take some time to get used to giving the shot, and she might be crabby about the change in diet, but you should see results in a month or so. Meanwhile, I'll say kitty prayers...

Phoebe has had two diabetic cats. Abelard is 16.

Debit was almost as old.

It's manageable. The needles are tiny, the cats don't mind.
