I finished my book.

The one I'm writing, that is.

OK, not totally finished. It needs a crapload of editing to get anywhere near where I want it before I go pinging agents. But the story and rough draft are now complete. About 45k words right now, should be about half again when I'm done with the final edits.

I envy folks who can bang out the 50k-word novels for NaNo. That's just not how I work, though. Attention span, fickle muses, etc. It's taken me three years to get this far, and it's the first real novel-sized thing I've ever finished (more or less.)* So, yeah. Pretty pleased with myself.

It's probably not the Great American Fantasy Novel or anything, but I do think it's a fun little read, and I hope it's good enough to get out there in the world in some professional fashion eventually. We'll see, I guess. :)

*We'll just ignore the fact that my ongoing A/B/C fic universe thusfar has about the same word count. What? My muses are pervy little bastards.

Yay! for you...can't wait til you get it all finished and we can have a read. From what you've told me so far it seems really interesting. Congrats! (and don't worry about the A/B/C stuff...it helps to keep the juices flowing xD )

Awesome! And don't measure yourself by what someone does for Nano or on their own time. People write different ways and none are right or wrong. It's something I've really had to drill into my head. Sure, there are probably ways someone could increase their productivity, but it's not bad to take three years to finish a first draft (or five, or ten, or twenty, etc.). What's important is sticking to it and persevering. So congrats!! Now comes the hard part. XD

Once I get the top-level edit done, I'll smush it all into a doc and let you have a read. I'm interested in getting some story/characterization feedback from various folks, so I can fix any big problems before I go sending it to an agent.

And yes... Juices. ;)

Thank you!

My attention span is so cockeyed that I'm surprised I got this done at all. Now that I know I can, though, I feel a lot better about being able to possibly do more of this in the future.
