Birdies!

Yep, they're still around, and for the first time, I saw one of these lovelies poking around the yard:

Northern Flicker

Didn't manage to get a pic of it, but it was lunching quite happily on stuff on the ground, so I'm sure he'll be back.

Also saw a ton of others this morning--Steller's Jays, chickadees, song sparrows, Oregon juncos and several of the spotted towhees we've gotten quite a lot of.

I love Northern Flickers! Mostly because they look absolutely and utterly fake. I mean, they look like a late 1960s designer trainwreck, painted by a three year old! And yet they're still very pretty...

Heh! Yep. This one had particularly bright coloring, too. His crown looked bright orange.

i put up a suet cake on my tiny, tiny, sorry excuse for a balcony and put my camera near that window.
maybe i can get some good pictures of some of those critters living in the court.

Pretty!

Despite having a bird feeder that we keep topped up, we pretty much only ever see what are known in England as "small brown jobs," that is, kind of colourless birds (hedge sparrows and the like). I once saw a blue jay and once a red cardinal, but that's about it, so I envy you the variety you have!
