Ever have a near-death experience?..

Sorta. Apparently the EMTs came close to losing me on the ride to the ER the last time I tried to off myself (which was nearly 15 years ago.)


Name an obvious quality you have..

Aside from talents/skills, I think my most-obvious trait is being low-bullshit. This doesn't work for some people, especially those who expect women to soft-peddle their ideas and opinions, but I vastly prefer it to the alternative.


What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now? ..

Past and Pending, by The Shins. Awfully depressing for such a lovely morning.


Name a celebrity you would marry? ..

Andrew I'd shag rotten and then hand him back to Hannah (if she weren't already along for the ride, that is.) But marry? Probably Neil. He's actually one of the few celebs I think I might really be able to be friends with, at least.


Has anyone ever said you look like a celebrity? ..

Nope, though I did get mistaken for Philip Seymour Hoffman's agent once.


Do you wear a watch? ..

Nope. Just use my phone.


Do you like pain? ..

Actual pain? No. I'm a total wuss. Enough so that I ask for nitrous when I'm getting a cleaning at the dentist.


Do you like to shop? ..

Yes and no. I love buying things I want and need, but I don't think of shopping as a recreation unto itself. Except when I'm traveling, oddly enough. Then you'll find me in every tchotchke shop in town.


What was the last thing you paid for with cash? ..

I don't remember, actually. Usually I only use cash for small things: Convenience stores, fast food, etc. Everything else goes on the debit card. Much easier to keep track of what I spend that way.


What is your favourite lamp that you own?

Not exactly a lamp, but I adore the wall sconces we installed in the theatre. Gorgeous, pretty glass.


What is on your desktop background? ..

At the moment, nothing, though most recently it was a slightly-altered version of one of the Primeval s4 filming pics.


What was the last movie you watched in theatres? ..

It's been a while. I think Avatar was the last one. We've been doing DVDs and On Demand more than anything else these days.


What was the last book you read? ..

Finished the final Primeval tie-in book a couple of months ago. Now slowly working my way through the latest Redwall.


Ocean or pool? ..

Pool. There are creepy critters in the ocean, dangit. That said, the pool in question has to be scrupulously clean and basically devoid of other people. I'd love having my own someday. I'd be in it all the time.


Did you ever have a party that was busted by the cops? ..

Not that I can recall, though I may have attended one or two of those in my misspent youth.


Ever met anyone famous? ..

Lessee... All four hobbits (at least twice each), Serena, several of the Oscar winners from the first year... And a few other random folks here and there. Dom was probably the most awesome. Foul-mouthed, cheeky little fuck.


Do you twirl your spaghetti or cut it? ..

Weave/twirl. There's an art to it, really.


Baseball or Football? ..

Football. The real Ammurikan kind with tackles and strategy, please. Running around aimlessly for 90 minutes is not football. (Can't stand basketball or hockey for the same reason. And baseball is utterly boring. Nothing happens for hours on end, and they consider it a good game when even LESS happens.)


What is your favourite part of the Day/Night? ..

I like clear, warm summer mornings. Aside from that, I really love the wee hours. The world is so much quieter past midnight. I can get so much done then.


Have you ever ridden in an ambulance? ..

A couple of times, yes. The aforementioned event, for instance.


Can you tango? ..

Theoretically, yes. I actually dance fairly well, believe it or not. I just don't these days because it's so exhausting for me, and because M is so much taller than I am.


What would you like to spend a lot of time doing? ..

If I could ever get past my own inertia and fear of success, I'd finish my damned novel.


Can you sing? ..

Yep. Came very close to doing it professionally until I discovered that the opera world is full of snobby assholes who won't listen to you unless you have a blue blood pedigree and started training when you were five. Once I realized that the only people who were winning competitions and getting lead roles were the favorite pets of the prestigious voice teachers, I left that world. I'm good--very good, when I've been training and am in proper condition--but I just don't have the right resume, nor do I have the right look (opera is becoming just as bent on Pretty People as other arts these days) so I'll never be able to do it for real.

I do miss it, though. I need to at least get back into some sort of choral singing soon.


What's your least favourite chore? ..

Anything involving bending over. I don't mind doing dishes or putting laundry away, but my back just can't take anything below waist height. I feel terrible about it, but I have to have M do the cat boxes because I just can't bend over like that.


Favorite drink? ..

Hint water. Love love love it. It is my crack.


Have you been on a cruise? ..

Just the once, for our wedding. Would love to again someday, though. We've looked into doing an Eastern Seaboard trek at some point (starting from Boston and going up and around Maine through to Quebec.)


Are you a vegetarian? ..

I was o/l for 16 years, and then started doing fish and fowl because I need the iron. I still don't eat mammals, though: Only things with tiny brains with next to no complexity. I'm actually quite horrified that people eat pigs, considering how intelligent they are. It's like eating a dog, to me. Generally speaking, Americans eat way too much animal flesh anyway.


Do you eat the stems of broccoli? ..

Only the tender parts, and only if they're boiled to death.


Can you dance? ..

As mentioned above: Yeah. I look ridiculous doing it, because my body isn't visually suited for the kinds of moves I can do, but yep. I'm far more flexible than I might look.


Would you ever have plastic surgery? ..

To correct something that's gone wrong, yes. I had horrible acne when I was younger, and it really ravaged my face, so I've considered having some dermabrasion someday to get rid of my old scars and maybe get rid of some of the little keratin cysts/scar tissue bumps I have from all that, too.

If I were ever to lose a lot of weight (unlikely, but if they ever found a cure for my problem, it might happen), I'd probably go get the excess skin tightened up. My skin is very thin and non-elastic, so it wouldn't shrink easily.

If I ever get the guts to go get my deviated septum fixed, I may have them straighten out my nose, too. Doc asked me once if I'd ever broken it, because the septum cartilage is so wonky.

Considered having a breast reduction, but it's not critical enough to me to trade nerve damage for it.

Other than that... I really disapprove of surgery that's only to hide signs of aging or fit a very narrow aesthetic. Boob jobs, face lifts, all that? I don't get it. Human variation is a good thing. Trying to look like an Aryan 20-year-old is pointless.


What do you wear to bed? ..

Nightshirts that are basically just long t-shirts. No undies--I prefer to have more air circulation.


Have you ever done anything illegal? ..

Oh, my yes. Not lately, though. Aside from speeding.


What kind of shoes are you wearing? ..

Barefoot at the moment. I don't wear shoes in the house. No need to track dirt all over the place and wear out the floors. I do wear a pair of croc-like slipons in the kitchen, though, because standing on the hard floor kills my feet.


What is your hair color? ..

Going by the roots when my dye job starts growing out, about 70/30 dishwater brown and gray. Rather like a wild rodent. I much prefer life as a redhead. I'm planning to go natural when I turn 40, though.


Future child's name? ..

It's not set in stone, but we've always been fond of Terran. It was the name of a really awesome girl I worked with back in college, and I've always liked it. We've gone back and forth on the last name issue (Hyphenated? His? Mine?) and what we've come down to is that if we get a boy, he'll take M's name, and if it's a girl, she'll have mine. And then the middle name would be a hybrid of our first names: Misha.


City, beach, or country? ..

I love the peace and quiet of rural areas. Can't stand most of the people who live there. I need to be close to a major, blue city or I'd go nuts. That said, I'd probably also be happy in a small, coastal college or hippie town.


What is your favourite TV show? ..

Much as I have a fetish for it at the moment thanks to its hotass geekboy, Primeval's not actually my favorite. That would be Caprica, because it's so brilliantly written.


What is your favourite cuisine? ..

Italian/Mediterranean, Mexican/Central American, Indian, Thai. Never been impressed with French, and though I do like some Southern dishes, most of them are way too heavy on the meat and grease for my taste.


What foods do you dislike? ..

Aside from my no-mammals thing, I can't stand lettuce. Romaine is about the only lettuce I'll eat. Everything else is bitter and substanceless. Spinach and some other greens, fine. But lettuce itself just isn't actually food. I get plenty of water and fiber in other ways, so I pass on the salads.

Also: Avocados. Slimy green mush. Bleh.

I'd like to enjoy seafood more, but I can't help but react badly to the fishy taste. It just seems like it's spoiled or something.


Where would you visit if you had the chance? ..

Everywhere, though I hope to at least get to Oz/NZ and Western Europe before I die. I can live without most of Asia, Africa and S. America if I need to. Will prolly do one of those big around-the-world cruises someday.


Cup half-empty or half-full? ..

Cup's the wrong size for the job.


What is your favourite sport to watch? ..

Aside from football, I do enjoy figure skating and diving.


Bird watcher? ..

Getting into it! I may have found a cheesy hobby to rival M's geocaching obsession.


Always wear your seat belt? ..

Yep, though I tend to put it on as I'm pulling out of the driveway.


Been in a car accident? ..

A few, yeah. Nothing too horrible. The worst one ripped off my fender and jammed the driver's door, but I came out of it fine.


Favorite pizza toppings? ..

Depends on my mood, though I have a preference for thin margherita. It all has to be very fresh, though.


Favorite flower? ..

Hydrangeas, Rhodies, Irises, Tea Roses, Snapdragons, Delphiniums, Foxglove. Am a bit of a perennial whore.


Favorite ice cream? ..

Americone Dream and Cherry Garcia. Also like Apple Pie and Butter Brickle, when I can find them.


Favorite fast food restaurant? ..

I'm ashamed to admit that I have a Taco Bell thing. Gotta have my bean burritos. Other than that, I do get a Gardenburger from Burgermaster, Kidd Valley or Burgerville when I can. Also love Kidd Valley's fried mushrooms.

I'll also do Taco Time (veggie soft taco!), KFC and Jack in the Box on occasion.

I don't actually do fast food very often, though. Maybe a few of times a month. Strangely enough, my preference, when I actually need food and I'm running around without a lot of time, is raiding the fridge case at Starbucks. Their sandwiches and little meal plates (the fruit and cheese plate, for instance) are quite yummy and a lot healthier than most stuff.


How many times did you fail your driver's test? ..

Once, due to a turn signal issue that was largely the examiner's fault because he mumbled. Went back the next month and passed easily.


Which store would you choose to max out your credit card? ..

If I was being practical? Freddy's. Because they have everything. Maybe a Super Target, for the same reason.


What was your favourite vacation? ..

I love Hawaii. We've been four times, and will surely go again. It's incredibly peaceful and calm and relaxing. We've had some fun road trips, too. The traipsing around Alberta thing we did five years ago was a blast.


What are you listening to right now? ..

The hum of the A/C and the tapping of my own typing.


What is your favourite colour? ..

Sage green.


Coffee drinker? ..

I love good coffee. Can't drink it, though. I have terrible reactions to caffeine. Not only does it make me a raging bitch, but I get horrible hangovers from it.

And I will always envy you that experience! I've largely given up on that dream and resigned myself to admiring from afar.

I agree with you on the shopping thing, spent the afternoon with daughter #2 and my neice on the Strand in Galveston browsing, which was cool, but any other time? Nah, not a mall wanderer.
