1. Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?
Apparently so. My guts are gutsy.
2. Would you do meth if it was legal?
Hell the fuck no. I have no desire to watch my face rot away. I honestly can't imagine any temporary high being worth the serious long-term consequences that the vast majority of illegal, addictive substances have.
3. Abortion: for or against it?
I am for the option remaining legal, because every pregnancy is unique, and it's a medical decision that shouldn't be interfered with by non-medical personnel.
As a matter of principle: No human is obligated to allow the use of his or her body by someone else, even if that other person would die. You're not obligated to give a donor match your bone marrow, and thus women should not be obligated to give space in their uterus to a fetus.
4. Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
What would world failure look like? And I assume this means a female U.S. president, as most of the rest of the civilized world has had female leaders already, and did just fine. Excepting Margaret Thatcher. Bleh.
5. Do you believe in the death penalty?
In very limited circumstances involving serial killers. But I wouldn't be all that put out if it wasn't legal.
6. Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already?
Yes, but tightly controlled and rationed. I've known way too many burned-out, utterly useless potheads to think it should circulate totally freely and without restriction.
Not remotely interested in the stuff myself. I prefer my brain cells the way they are.
7. Are you for or against premarital sex?
As with abortion, I am in favor of people having the choice. I am also in favor of young kids not getting married at 18 just so they can get laid. And I am 100% in favor of masturbation--the ultimate safe sex.
8. Do you believe in God?
I believe in the Higgs boson. Does that count?
9. Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
Religions are, as always, free to grant sacraments to whomever they choose. The state, however, has no compelling interest in limiting domestic contracts to male/female couples.
10. Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?
I think it's wrong that they feel they have to. 99% of illegals are fleeing severe economic or other oppression. While we should work with their home countries to get rid of oppressive regimes that cause this exodus, we should also accept those refugees in the meantime.
If we can afford $700 billion for a bank bailout and uncounted billions for this damned ongoing war, we can afford the comparatively tiny hit that refugees cause to our social programs.
11. A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
I would counsel her to have an abortion. Seriously. 12-year-old bodies are not made for healthy pregnancies. Her chances of dying or being permanently maimed by attempting to give birth are astronomical.
12. Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?
Yes for beer and wine, but no for anything harder. And they shouldn't be allowed to purchase more than one six-pack or one bottle of wine at a time. Their bodies just aren't quite developed well enough to process larger amounts of alcohol.
13. Should the war in Iraq be called off?
Yes, and the troops reassigned to Afghanistan.
14. Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree?
If someone is in intractable pain, absolutely they ought to be able to escape that.
15. Do you believe in spanking your children?
No. Violence toward children is never acceptable under any circumstances.
16. Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars?
I'd burn it for 10 bucks and a movie ticket if I had a good reason to do so.
Also, I always find it amusing that people get so wigged out by flag burning. Hi, that's what you're SUPPOSED to do with the damned things when they get old and tattered.
17. Who do you think would make a better president: McCain or Obama?
Obama. I don't think he'd be the best president ever, but the more I've watched and listened to him, the more confidence I have in his ability to lead. He's a smart cookie and he thinks things through instead of having instant, emotional reactions to crises. I think we need that right now. Even aside from him being the best choice on all the issues and even aside from the scary prospect of Sarah Palin being a 72-year-old heartbeat away from the Oval Office, I honestly think Obama is more capable of doing the job than McCain.
Republicans had a majority in Congress for 12 years, and the White House for 8. They have, in that time, reduced this once-fine nation to a shadow of its former glory. We need to give someone else a chance.

I suspect the ones who would do so probably skipped over this, unless they want an excuse to work themselves up into a self-righteous snit.
