So, apparently, a bunch of anti-war protesters have decided that the first day of finals week is a PEACHY time to hold a rally.

*headdesk*

I should be done with my final tomorrow by the time this gang assembles, but I pity anyone who has a final going on at 11:30ish.

I love rallies. I love awareness-raising. I'm completely against the war, and I also understand the significance of the date. I also grok that they're just assembling there and the actual rally is downtown.

But would it have KILLED these people to wait until 4ish or so, after most of the finals are done for the day? After all, what if someone wanted to participate, and couldn't because he has a final?

There is nothing quite so annoying as well-meaning activism that pisses itself away in shitty execution. Stop making my side look stupid, guys.

Agreed that body numbers count - the rally that has 100,000 bodies waving banners gets more coverage than the one that has 10 mopey kids with handmade signs - I have to say, as a veteran of a great many rallies, most rallies are essentially preaching to the converted, period. Sure, holding this one at the beginning of your uni's finals is bad timing on someone's part, but so it goes in the real world. Now, if you wanted to persuade the professors to reschedule so that they could attend the rally, that would be something; otherwise, it's pretty much a ho-hum for anyone not in your school right at this moment....

The bigger issue here is that they're assembling in the middle of campus, in a plaza that has several classroom buildings surrounding it. There will be people taking finals 10 feet away from where the group is forming. Having been to a few of the rallies in this courtyard, it can get very noisy. A noisy rally in the middle of finals? Not cool.

And it's being sponsored by a student group, so they should know better.

Ah, I hadn't realized they were assembling on campus - that does seem rather idiotic for a student group to organize during finals!
