So, I have a looming dilemma for fall.

The stupid AS and other university official-type peoples have decided not to fund the shuttle bus next year. This is the shuttle that is my only means from getting from the ass end of the parking lot to my building. Most of the rest of campus can be accessed from the main WTA stops up the hill, but buildings on the other side are very hard to get to either from the parking lots or any WTA stops--it's uphill from the lots to the campus. Which isn't too bad if I get a spot on the closest end of the lot, but is absolutely impossible otherwise (which is usually the case.)

Ain't no way in hell parking services will give me a disabled permit that will allow me to park in the faculty lot next to the building. I would need to qualify for an official state disabled permit--and I doubt I do. The really freaking annoying part about that is that the criteria for the state--not being able to walk 200 feet without stopping to rest--are based on things like store parking lots, and not the actual conditions present on campus. I can walk 200 feet on level ground. What I can't do is walk 100 yards uphill without my legs trembling and my lungs feeling like they're going to fall out of my chest and burst into flame.

Given my previous experience with the nasty people at disabled student services, I seriously doubt they'd go out of their way to find alternate transportation options for me if I didn't qualify by DMV standards.

So, aside from the (very remote) possibility of finding someone who's willing to drop me off at my building before they go park elsewhere, I have few options.

One I'm considering is the possibility of leasing a Vespa or similar type of thing. There's a motorcycle parking area not too far from my building. Still a hike--about 50 yards--but it's basically flat ground instead of uphill, so I could manage.

There are a few issues with that, however. First, I've never ridden any sort of scooter or motorcycle in my life. I've ridden bikes, and that's it. I've never operated a hand throttle. Second, I'm not sure the scooter would be at all practical for fall and winter term, when it's raining constantly. I don't know if they're hardy enough (or if I am) to handle that. It's a short ride from the apartment (about 10 minutes door to door) but even so. Third, I don't know if my ass is small enough to fit on the seat, and if my legs are long enough to hit the ground when I am.

But that's pretty much it for options. Otherwise I'm stuck hitting campus at 0dark30 to make sure I get a parking spot close enough that I'll only have one lung explode every day instead of both. And I'm definitely screwed if I want to take a class in any other buildings.
