textualdeviance: (LADY Emily)
So, now that I'm more or less done with the epic YA fantasy novel of doom, I figured it's time to look ahead to my next project.

I've decided I'm going to go a little more traditional with this next one. Yeah, there are a lot of romantic princess stories out there, but I, personally, haven't written one, so I may as well!

The twist on this one is that it's told from the prince's point of view. Most of the typical stories like this are about the poor princess who goes through some sort of trial and finds her handsome prince at the end. The few prince stories are things like Sleeping Beauty, where the princess doesn't really figure in the story itself.

This one, however, is going to be all about how much this prince loves her, and wants to be with her, and will do anything to have her.

Here's a brief synopsis:

Prince Eldwyd of Mystania is dashing and handsome, but he is lonely. His days are filled with princely duties like hunting, or going to parties or training his team of fighting knights. But he really just wants to settle down and be married and have a big family. None of the women of Mystania really make him happy, though, despite his parents' attempts to find him a suitable wife.

A chance meeting with a mysterious princess from another land captures his imagination. Princess Alastria of Dawnland is betrothed to another--a political marriage set up by her scheming father--but as soon as their eyes meet, Eldwyd knows this is the woman for him. She is tall, lithe and perfect, with flowing auburn hair and unique eyes that sparkle like amethysts sprinkled with gold dust. It is only one night--at a party in the castle in her homeland--that he sees her, but from the moment they meet, it's kismet.

When he goes back home, Eldwyd can think of nothing else. He becomes pale and ill, because he doesn't want to eat or sleep or go outside. And because his fate is magically tied to the health of the land of Mystania, it, too, starts to fail. Evil spirits start to flourish, the sun is constantly hidden behind clouds, and misfortune starts to befall everyone in the land. Crops dry up, livestock get diseases, young couples become barren.

Finally, his father the king sees what's going on, and tells his son that for the good of all, he must pursue that which will make him happy. So Eldwyd rides off for Dawnland, seeking his beautiful princess, heedless of the trials he may have to face to win her love, and of the mysterious secret Alastria holds that may seal the fate of both their lands.

What happens next? Well, that's all in the book! But I'll give you a hint! )
