Good people
Reason 6549087 why I love my vet's office: They called today to check up on Penny, even though she went to an emergency clinic last night and didn't see them.
Awesome.
As for Miss Pennicula herself, she's doing OK. Hates her party hat and she's still sore and moving slowly, but she's definitely getting back to her usual squeaky self. She has pain meds for the next few days and will be on antibiotics for a week or so--the delivery of which is kind of a headache--but she's improving. She's locked up in the bedroom for now so the others don't harass her.
I was so damned scared last night. Seriously, y'all should've seen the bloody goo she was producing. It was horrible. I honestly thought she'd ruptured something internal or swallowed poison or some other nasty thing that was tearing her up. Gross as it was, I'm ever so happy that it was just abcess goo instead. Even the emergency vet was relieved when she first saw where it was really coming from.
I've been so worried about Punky, who's still rail-thin, but otherwise seems to be OK, and having Penny suddenly get sick really freaked me out. She's our baby--the only one we've both had since she was a kitten, and the one we got shortly after we started dating. Losing her would've been really disturbing. I know she has to go sometime, and she is getting older, but it looks like she's in good shape for a while longer at least.
I'm also glad the bill for last night's entertainment was reasonable. After the $5k or so we spent in Kitty Bob's last years, I was definitely not looking forward to paying for an expensive surgery. We'd get pet insurance, but they don't cover cats over age 7, so that's not possible for any of them. I'm happy to pay whatever's necessary to keep them all healthy and functional, but it's still a hit to the credit card.
