It may not be #1 on my list of Things I Really Didn't Want to Do Tonight, but cleaning a massive dingleberry dreadlock off of my cat's ass is definitely high on that list.

I was alerted to this terrible condition by the fact that said cat decided to pee on our couch. I don't know if he was letting me know about his problem or if there's something else going on (he does this sort of thing often, dingleberries or no. And no, we've never been able to figure out why, save for the fact that he's chronically neurotic.)

When we realized that there was still reek in the air despite having taken the steam cleaner to the furniture, we looked at him, and sure enough...

Ugh.

Now, mind you that merely taking a handiwipe or a baggie-covered hand to his nether regions did not dislodge this thing. It had, as they say, a certain gargantuan quality. So much so that I suspect the poor bugger hadn't been able to actually evacuate anything else very well. So into the tub he went, where I had one hand underneath him, holding him up so he couldn't get a pawhold on anything and either shred it or dash out, and the other holding up his tail, so I could back him up against the faucet and start rinsing.

Fortunately, the rinsing went well, and I finished him up with a handiwipe and an old towel while M scoured the tub. Poor cat is now drenched, but doesn't seem too terribly angry. I guess we'll see if he pees on something else.

Chances are good that I'll probably take him into the vet tomorrow if I can, just to make sure he doesn't have something else going on. I've been reluctant to take him in because I know he has a heart condition, and the stress of going to the vet could make him worse, but at this point, if he's in pain from a UTI or something, I want to get him looked at.

Sigh...

I love my furbabies. Really. But this particular one really should just be followed around with a steam cleaner.
