Primitive living
So, thanks to the ugly windstorm Wednesday, power at the bachelor pad was knocked out for about 12 hours. Because this meant that the elevator and parking garage gate were down, and we had no heat, I ended up staying in a motel Weds. night so I could have a safer place to sleep and get a shower. I didn't have my breathing machine with me, though, so I didn't sleep all that well.
The resultant stress has made me a little sick, and my monthly allotment of Sudafed (thanks, stupid methheads) is at the house, so I couldn't breathe last night, and thus couldn't use my machine, either. Not good when I had spent all day cleaning out my fridge of spoiled food, and had just worked long hours at the SPFH.
So I wake up this morning, achy and headachy from lack of oxygen overnight. I'm feeling slimy, because the shower at the motel yesterday morning wasn't ideal (motel shampoo and soap = nasty.) I'm looking forward to a nice, hot shower.
And the water is out.
Turns out a water main broke down the street, and it won't be back on for several hours.
Normally, since this is Friday, I would just pack up and head home. But I assembled dinner for the gang last night, and my sink is full of Indian-food-crusted dishes that will not smell nice when I get back here Sunday night. Plus, because of the power outage, I have laundry piled up that I was intending to run through this morning before I left. No clean undies.
I have greasy hair, teeth that need a good brushing, a serious lack of clean clothes, a stinky kitchen and I really need to commune with Mother Nature.
Could this week get any more fun?
*headdesk*
It's not that I'm spoiled. I realize that I'm lucky to even have a roof over my head, and I've survived well under less-than-comfortable circumstances before--living out of my car, couch surfing, etc. It's that if I knew I was going to be lacking certain modern resources, I would plan better for that. Having them suddenly disappear? Crappy.
