I went to my first arena concert in aaaages tonight (well, last night, technically.) The last one I went to was Tori Amos in... 99? Something like that. This time it was Tom Petty. Great show, though getting to and from White River (especially when one gets stuck parking in BFE) sucks donkey.
It was for the paper, which meant great seats. I was crawling with nostalgia the entire time, though. Didn't help when he brought out Stevie Nicks and Eddie Vedder. Now that's a pair you couldn't expect to see together anywhere else.
I've never seen Eddie perform live. Now I understand why people think he pings. I seem to recall some incident a few years back with him giving full-on mackage to Michael Stipe onstage. Kinda sexy, actually, in that Ewan-as-Curt sort of way. I've never been much of a PJ fan, but he is a cutie.
And Petty's just cool. He's like the kind of rocker the word cool was invented for. Totally unpretentious and low-bullshit. I'm glad I got the opportunity to go. I wouldn't have on my own, since I don't do this very often, but I'm glad I got sent there.
I highly recommend his new album, too. Jeff Lynne produced it, and it has his ELO scent all over it.
Just finished my writeup for it. I may be working on a slideshow narration if we had photo there. But for now, sleep.
