So, this is my last night here this week, and the last weeknight for the forseeable future. I don't have a mattress yet-- that's getting delivered Thursday-- so I'm going to have to manage two nights sleeping on the floor. Fortunately, I bought a thick comforter and a feather bed and that should make it somewhat easier to handle. I don't have any other seating, though, which is kind of a pain.

I'm still way behind on my to-do list, and it's now down to just doing what absolutely must be done. Finishing the dishes here is just not high on the priority list when there are things like handing over walk-thru paperwork and buying eating utensils to be done. I probably won't really be caught up for another two weeks.

Apparently the paper has already started printing. I stopped by campus tonight to check out my classrooms for potential seating problems (none! wow!) and there was a stack of fresh papers next to the door so I grabbed one. It's actually a pretty thick paper, although much of it is ads. I'll have to see what it is they want of me once I get started, but since that's my first class, I should know soon. From what I can tell, they might well be in need of another copy editor, so that may be something I do. I'm not the world's best grammarian, but at least I know the difference between its and it's and that seems to be beyond the people doing the vetting now. Which is fair enough, of course. This isn't the NYT. Aside from that, I think I'm probably going to see what kind of writers they need for their entertainment section. I'm certainly up for doing some movie and DVD reviews, among other things.

So far, my only odd experience (and one which I expect to repeat from time to time) was getting asked whether I needed a student or faculty parking permit. I guess that doesn't bother me, really. I don't expect to be one of "the gang" with the other students, and maybe if I seem faculty-ish I won't get a lot of shit. I'm still debating whether to go to Convocation tomorrow night. I imagine it'll probably be freshman-focused and a bunch of really boring speeches, so I probably won't go. It seems like one of the "traditional" college things, and I've never been interested in that anyway. I just want to go to class, do the work and get the degree. No football games, student government or keggers pour moi, merci. Although being involved with the paper, I suppose I'll have to have some level of on-campus involvement, even if that's just gritting my teeth during the quarterly voice student recitals to report on them.

I was supposed to get a battery for my laptop today, but Fry's didn't have them, so I get to wait for an order. My new mini-desktop won't be arriving until next week, and then I have to wait to get net hookup after that, so I probably won't be in much contact for the next several days. Those who have my cel number can use it if absolutely necessary, though I'll have it turned off while I'm in class, of course.

So this is it for now, I guess. One more day of errand running and then up to my ass in paperwork. Scary, but I think I'm ready, more or less.
