So, it turns out I not only have gaydar, but I have conservativedar, too. One of the guys in the class wants to specialize in business communications, and I said to myself... okay, there's your young republican right there.

Sure enough, during the critique of a liberal editorial, he made his politics known. :D

Oh, and scary happening of the day yesterday: I was accused by a fellow student of plagiarizing my first article because it was "too good." *snort*

WTF? Remind me...are you at a community college, or a 4-year school of some kind? Let me guess...the fellow student was barely out of their teens, and wouldn't know a coherent sentence if it bit them in the ass? Oh, jealousy. *snerk* Why plagiarize when you can out-write half of the pros to begin with?

It's community college. But the funny thing was is that the guy who said this wasn't a half-literate frosh, but older than me, and a former professional copywriter. Gah.

I had a weird experience yesterday, though. We were in a discussion group about magazine publishing, and no one was talking, so I started talking. I paused frequently, looked around for other people to start saying something and no one did! So I kept talking. And they were all looking at me as if I was the instructor-- deferring to me, making me the group's spokseperson, etc. And I sort of got scolded for that by the instructor. I didn't know what else to do-- no one was talking. They were just sitting around waiting for someone else to start, so I did. Meh.

Definitely threatened. Someone's got a complex, that's for sure. And, I've found you'll get that kind of crap a bit more at a community college...it's difficult to be bright without appearing like a know-it-all, when many of your classmates are not anywhere near your level.

I took an anatomy class at a community college...was acing the class and barely cracking the book, meanwhile my fellow students (who were in the nursing program, I wasn't) were barely passing, and asking 'do we have to know this stuff?' People who were getting seriously tripped up over things like 'phalanges' being the plural of 'phalanx'. (And yes, everyone was supposed to have already taken the med terminology class.) I just wanted to take down names, so that if I ever ran across one of them in a clinic or something, I could avoid them like the plague.

Oh yes. Community college memories... :P

Glad you're otherwise enjoying your classes, though. They do sound interesting, and you sound happier, which is always a good thing. :)
