Morning's amusement: getting mail from a Communications student who wants to interview me for a research paper. Oi. I suppose this rather means I'm a bit ahead of the game when I start my class in January... ;)

Actually, here's the class description for what I'm taking (yay-- registering tomorrow!):
CMU 203 Media in United States Society
In this course, students become better consumers of information through an understanding of the media’s history and cultural, economic and social impacts. Students will learn how the Internet, television, radio, film and print media affect private and public life. They will be able to critically analyze the news and information flowing around them. Students will explore the legal, ethical, economic and commercial dimensions of mass communications, including First Amendment issues and career possibilities.

Mike warned me to not try to teach the class. Heh.

It's cool, though. This is obviously my niche field. I miss performing, singing especially, but I think this is gonna work out. The whole swirl of politics, media and entertainment, and how they interact to impact cultural change is practically a fetish for me, so I think this really is where I belong. I always saw performing as communicating with an audience anyway. Using a stage, using music, to deliver a message, to interact with people. To get them to think, to feel, to question. So this isn't far out from that. It's just looking at it from an observer viewpoint instead of a participant.

Off to do more errand running today.

Hopefully the class will live up to the description. It sounds like one you will really enjoy. Good luck.
