Meme, ho. Er. So to speak...

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] claireweasley

1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Tons of things. Most salient: commuted each week by ferry for the summer; survived nearly three days without power; dealt with a truly wretched crush on someone 15 years my junior.

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions and will you make more for next year?
I don't know that I had any, specifically. Just some general goals and plans, virtually all of which came to fruition.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I think one of my cousins did. Maybe that was last year.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
One of my aunts passed away a few weeks ago.

5. What countries did you visit?
I didn't even make it to Canada this year. I suck.

6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
A degree in journalism. :)

7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
November 7--the day we started getting our country back from madmen.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Surviving--nay, excelling at--my internship.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Still fighting my damned health problems.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing that required hospitalization, though I did have an endoscopy, which was icky, and I continue to be frustrated by my usual stuff.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
New furniture and my completely awesome smart phone.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Russ Feingold. Had the guts to stand up to the whackos well before anyone else did.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The GOP always makes me appalled and depressed. But what's really appalling and depressing are the people who STILL support those freaks even after the corruption, lying and disregard for anything except money they exhibited this year.

14. Where did most of your money go?
School and related expenses.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Brokeback Mountain's Oscar march.

16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
Anything from "Under the Iron Sea."

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: Happier or sadder? Thinner or fatter? Richer or poorer?
Happier, about the same and about the same. More income, but also more debt.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Watch movies, hang out with people I miss.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Doubt myself. Stress over little stuff.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Sleeping, I hope.

21. Did you fall in love in 2006?
Nah. Can't say that the fire in my loins that was stirred by being surrounded by hotties is really love. Still definitely in love with M, however.

23. How many one-night stands?
Several in my fevered imagination.

24. What was your favourite TV program?
BSG

25. Are you angry at anyone now that you weren't angry at this time last year?
Nope. Mostly, I'm sad that there are people angry at me, especially the ones who have reason to be because I did something stupid.

26. What were the best books you read?
I finally caught up on the Flinx and Pip stuff. Still have a ton of backlog.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Goldfrapp and Venus Hum.

28. What did you want and get?
My internship. Good grades.

29. What did you want and not get?
A magical pill that would make my illness go away.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Everything's been so dreadful, I haven't watched much. But I did like "Happy Feet."

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I honestly don't remember doing anything. I think I was busy that day. So much for 35.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Naked, hot 20 year olds in my apartment Karl Rove suddenly imploding

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Making sure my t-shirts were clean

34. What kept you sane?
M and lots of video gaming

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Katee Sackhoff

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The usual

37. Who did you miss?
Who DON'T I miss? But most of all, I miss [livejournal.com profile] heyokaboy

38. Who was the best new person you met?
The nutters in the newsroom this term, particularly our art director and one of our news eds, both of whom are insane, but in delightfully different ways.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
Make sure your tow driver actually knows a safe place to leave your dead car.
Always, always have emergency supplies on hand that will last at least three days.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

This reminds me of how frustrating it's been to see M only on the weekends:

Keane: "Bend and Break"

When you, when you forget your name
When old faces all look the same
Meet me in the morning when you wake up
Meet me in the morning then you'll wake up

If only I don't bend and break
I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake

Bitter and hardened heart
Aching, waiting for life to start
Meet me in the morning when you wake up
Meet me in the morning then you'll wake up

If only I don't bend and break
I'll meet you on the other side
I'll meet you in the light
If only I don't suffocate
I'll meet you in the morning when you wake
