*bangs head*

So, I'm in the Mac lab tonight finishing up my editing project, and there are a few of my classmates there. Talk turns to the Front, and I casually mentioned that I was annoyed at having to explain common knowledge things in my articles (today I got asked to spell out MBA on first reference. Egad.)

I mentioned having to explain how a bill goes through Congress, and one of the people gave me a blank stare and said, "what's a bill?"

O_O

Okay, Yale this is not, but Western's minimum freshman admission GPA is upwards of 3.6. How does any high school student get a GPA like that and NOT know what a bill is?

Alas, that's our generation, I'm afraid.

I am 20, and watched school house rock on saturday mornings. And in school! I think I may have been born in some sort of time warp, i love the 60s/70s was full of toys that I played with as a child. I may be the only person under 40 to have played with a vintage barbie.

I had a vintage Barbie (with bouffant) and a Ken with plastic molded hair and a crotch bump(!)

I'm glad they were still showing schoolhouse rock at some point. I don't think I've seen it on tv for a long time.

Once saturday morning cartoons started saying words like "sucks" (I vividly remember that day, and fully blame it for my current lack of interest in television) everything went down the tubes.

That seems excessively clueless for a student at any university. :(

It's kind of creepy, really.

Although I did have to laugh. I went to a meeting yesterday for the port commission, which is working out a plan to renovate the waterfront and wants the university involved. There were a few guys on the commission who were alumni, and one of them joked about how he knew Western way back when one only needed a 2.5 GPA to get in.

Eep!
