Geekery and total annihilation

Anyone else awake and watching the live LHC feed?

I know jack about physics and even less about particle physics, but for some reason, this whole thing fascinates me.

Hah! I wish I had seen this before. :D I was watching actually, isn't it exciting? My background is in high energy astrophysics, so I'm kind of a dork for this kind of thing. I can't wait for the actual experiments to begin!

My entire direct experience with physics education is a year worth of freshman astronomy in college. And I remember almost nothing about it except the Doppler effect and that the silly prof used to throw bonehead options into his multiple-guess tests just for fun.

Still, I do remember being absolutely fascinated by my school field trips to the planetarium, and Stephen Hawking just blows me away, even though I understand only about 1% of what he talks about.
