sigh

Woke up at a reasonable hour, despite staying up a bit too late. Did the morning rounds, took a shower. Laid down for a few minutes to air dry, and then an hour later, I woke up again.

I drove like hell, but it was too rainy, and my car needed gas, so by the time I got to B'ham, my class was half over. Meh. So I'm having lunch here before I head to my other class. Had to troubleshoot my net connect, though, which wasted half an hour. The really annoying thing is that I'm still sleepy, so I'm going to be useless in my other class.

[livejournal.com profile] onehitwnderbard-- if you were in class today, can I get notes? I have the ones from Friday for you when we hook up next. Or I can scan them and send them as a jpg. Also, did Ch. 2 make much sense to you? I got through the evolution bit (old news) but then I got really hung up with the whole DNA part. I seem to recall that confusing me the first time I heard about it in previous classes, too. Meiosis, mitosis... what is difference? *facepalm*

Unfortunately, this is one of those things where my ADD really gets in the way. I can recognize brain parts and functions and label them correctly. I can remember terms, to a degree. But following processes is really a pain. I can work it all out down the chain, but then I forget where I started. It's why I'm a lousy chess player and also why I've never done well with complex math. Anything that involves photographic memory, I'm there, but working formulas and processes and flow charts and such, beyond maybe half a dozen steps, and I'm completely lost, unless I'm deeply familiar with each step as an individual thing and can visualize it.

I have no problem with maps or navigation, but I can't take verbal directions to get anywhere. Yet word problems were easier for me in math. I guess maybe it comes down to abstract logic v. visually or otherwise tangibly-represented logic. I'm the kind of person who has to close her eyes to work math problems, because I have to visualize writing down everything. I get so frustrated when I'm trying to do this because I lose my place and feel like I can just sense it back in there somewhere but I can't reach it.

Hm. I wonder what part of my brain that has to do with...

I may have an assignment to do this Friday afternoon. I'll know for sure after all my classes are done today--probably about 4:30ish.

If nothing else, though, I'll be heading back late Friday evening.

Hey--finally got my schedule sorted out. My thing is tomorrow instead of Friday. So I should be heading south Friday afternoon, pretty much any time after 1p. Let me know where/when.
