Year-End Meme
Will be doing my usual life tally post as well, but figured I'd do this, too. (Gacked from
vandonovan)
1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Took up birdwatching. Ate tomatoes I grew myself. Learned how to edit video. Visited Atlanta.
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Eh, I don't really do those. They're just a setup for failure.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
The lovely
miss_swamp had a delightful little one, and
mrdorbin and
southplains brought home one of their own, too.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My beloved kitty, Familiar. Still grieving that one.
5. What countries did you visit?
Popped up to Vancouver in April. I suppose one could also consider Georgia a separate country. ;)
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
Time, energy, stable health and a kid
7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory and why?
Not really much of a date person. There are significant events, but I don't associate them with a day.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting my novel dusted off and going again, and writing ~20k words on it.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not making quite enough money to reach some of our goals; being in a non-productive holding pattern for most of the year; being unable to resolve a nasty falling out with my parents
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just the usual
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Tickets to Dragon*Con. It was exhausting, but I had a blast, and got to hook up with the lovelies
pottsfanatic and
ourdramaqueen
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My darling D, who has made my life so much easier just by being around here. Best. Roomie. Ever.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Pretty much everyone in politics, save the amazing Bernie Sanders and the folks who pushed the Prop 8 and DADT repeals through.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Paying off bills from last year's Uprooting.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

16. What songs will always remind you of 2010?
Most of the ones I used to make fanvids. :)
17. Compared to this time last year, are you...
i) happier or sadder? Hopeful.
ii) thinner or fatter? About 10 lbs down from where I was this time last year.
iii) richer or poorer? About even. Our house has dropped a little in value since the market's still tight, but other than that, we're making good on the bill paying.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Meatspace socializing, travel
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Staying up too damned late
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
We had a quiet day at home.
21. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
Sitting in the theater watching DVDs and/or playing Rock Band
22. Did you fall in love in 2010?
If by "love" you mean being a sad fanthing for a slightly obscure British actor and his hotass fiancee, then yes... ;)
23. How many one night stands?
None. Wrote a few. ;)
24. What were your favorite TV programs?
Primeval, Ideal, Eureka, W13, Sanctuary, Leverage, Caprica (*sob*), True Blood, Fringe
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate last year?
Just a handful of rude teenie fans. Other than that, just the usual hatred of short-sighted, selfish libertarian jackholes
26. What was the best book you read?
I've read so few this year. :( All I managed was the new Redwall and the Primeval tie-in novels. However, I just inherited M's Kindle (since I bought him a K3 for Xmas), so that may change.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The new Duran Duran single. I'm 14 again, and I love it.
28. What did you want and get?
New friends! Even if they are halfway across the world.
29. What did you want and not get?
An end to my physical pain; a baby
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Deathly Hallows, which kind of blew my mind with how bleak and mature it was. Very well done and I can't wait for the next.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
39...and I honestly don't remember.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Aside from the baby/health/parental kerfluffle thing... Meeting Andrew, or having more money/time to travel.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
The usual: Woman who wears clothes to cover her (tm Molly Ivins)
34. What kept you sane?
Writing. Lots and lots of writing. And vidding. And
pottsfanatic. And the gang at
primeval_denial. And my back yard and the pretty birdies therein. My furballs.
And of course, M and D.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Some British guy. Don't remember his name.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The rise of the fucking Tea Party and their willfully ignorant, reality-avoidant philosophies. Yo, government of/by the people is not evil, morons. It's the only thing that stands between you and being worked to death by corporate overlords. Also, social programs are not a waste of money, and immigrants are not vermin. Go shove your Ayn Rand books up your ass and go away.
37. Who did you miss?
Friends I didn't see enough of. In particular,
heyokaboy
38. Who was the best new person you met?
pottsfanatic, hands down.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
I'm never satisfied unless I'm creating. Even if I have to spend most of my day doing something else to earn a paycheck, I MUST spend time creating something, too, or I'll go nuts.
Also, life is too short to waste any of it trying to teach pigs to sing. Especially if the pigs are flinging mud on you in the process.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Hey there, Mr. Blue.
We're so pleased to be with you.
Look around, see what you do.
Everybody smiles at you.
41. What was your favorite moment of the year?
Having Neil Grayston recognize me--by sight!--from Twitter. That was a serious holy shiznit moment for me.
42. What was your least favorite moment of the year?
Having to let Fammy go. I've never had to do that before. I couldn't go in. I had to make M do it. I still feel icky about it.
43. Where were you when 2010 began?
Here at the homestead
44. Who were you with?
A bunch of lovely friends
45. Where will you be when 2010 ends?
Parked in front of some screen or other
46. Who will you be with when 2010 ends?
M and the furbabies
47. What was your favorite month of 2010?
July. Beautiful weather and I got to spend most every morning of it parked in my back yard, watching the birdies.
48. Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2010?
I had... A few ciders, one or two beers and I think one mixed drink. Oh, and some rum-soaked Christmas pudding.
49. Did you do a lot of drugs in 2010?
Fewer than usual. Got off of one of my meds.
50. How many people did you sleep with in 2010?
Just M. In my head, however...
51. Did you do anything you were ashamed of this year?
There was some ill-advised impulsive behavior here and there, but nothing truly awful.
52. What was the worst lie someone told you in 2010?
Too complicated to explain that one.
53. Did you treat someone badly in 2010?
I barked at M a few times and probably didn't give D as many hugs as he deserves.
54. Did someone treat you badly in 2010?
Aside from the above-mentioned teenies who started a FB group to hate me... The above-mentioned falling out with my parents led to some rather horrifically abusive mails to me from them. Though said mails did go a long way toward making me believe I made the right decision to stop wasting mental energy on them.
55. How many concerts did you see in 2010?
Don't really do the concert thing these days.
56. Did you have a favorite concert in 2010?
See above
57. How much money did you spend in 2010?
Not much, if you don't count bill paying. The ATL trip and Fammy's vet bills were the biggest single expenses.
58. If you could go back in time to any moment of 2010 what would you change?
I'd have asked the vet for an ultrasound and biopsy way before we started treating Fammy for something she didn't have. It would've meant letting her go sooner, but we also wouldn't have put her through four days in the hospital.
59. What was your proudest moment of 2010?
Getting that story byline. :)
60. What was your most embarrassing moment of 2010?
Eh, nothing specific. Possibly making the rookie error of sending a couple of (polite, non-gushy) PMs to Andrew before he started his fan FB.
61. What are your plans for 2011?
More of the same. Will detail that in my real review!
